Important Safety Instructions Pertaining to a Risk of Fire, Electric Shock, or Injury to Individuals

Warning: When using this unit, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

Read and follow all instructions.
Danger: To reduce the risk of injury, do not permit children or infirmed individuals to use this unit unless they are supervised at all times!
  • Use this unit only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer.

  • NEVER drop or insert any object into any opening.

  • Do not operate the unit without the UL listed safety guard in place. The safety guard is located over the intake (suction device of your unit). This guard reduces the potential hazard of hair or body entrapment under the water line. If your safety guard should come loose, lost or damaged, contact Watertech immediately and a replacement will be shipped to you the same day. Keep hair and body away from the suction guard when the pump/motor is running.

  • Anyone under the care of a physician, pregnant women, or individuals in poor health, should consult their physician BEFORE using this whirlpool.

  • The recommended length of a whirlpool bath is approximately 5-10 minutes. However, if you become nauseous, dizzy, feel uncomfortable or develop a headache get out of the bath immediately and cool down. If symptoms persist get medical attention at once and do not use the unit again until approved to do so by your physician.

  • Do not use this or any whirlpool bath or spa immediately after eating or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

This unit MUST be connected only to a supply circuit that is protected by a GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER (GFCI). Each GFCI should be provided by the installer and should be tested on a regular basis to ensure safe operation of the unit.

Electrical Installation Instructions

All whirlpool pumps and heaters require separate 115 VAC Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI). Follow all local, state and national codes. Do not operate a whirlpool bath should the GFCI fail. Disconnect the whirlpool bath from the electrical outlet and have the problem corrected by a licensed electrician. Mood lights, because they are low voltage, can typically be plugged into a pump circuit. ALWAYS follow your local code requirements.

Each Watertech Whirlpool Bath comes with an air button that is installed at the factory. Simply push the round button once to turn the tub on and push again to turn the tub off.

If an optional Low Water Sensor is ordered, the pump will be plugged into a black plastic box called a TF-ITD. The air button tube will then connect to the TF-ITD, NOT the pump. The TF-ITD will plug into your electrical outlet.

If an optional Variable Flow Control System is ordered, the pump will be plugged into a black box called an EP840. An electronic round control button will be installed on the tub replacing the air button, it will plug into the EP840. The Variable Flow Valve will also plug into the EP840 control black box.

Both the Low Water Sensor and the Variable Flow Control system are completely hooked up when the whirlpool leaves the factory. The only thing the installer needs to do is plug the black control boxes into the electrical outlet. If a tub has two pumps, then two Variable Flow Control Systems must be ordered. Remember, both the Low Water Sensor and Variable Flow Control System are optional and do not come standard on any whirlpool.

Installation Instructions

Read All Instructions Before Installing!

Your Watertech Whirlpool Bath has been tested at the Watertech manufacturing facility in Johnson City, Tennessee, USA. DO NOT change the pump/motor location after receiving your tub. Doing so could result in system malfunctions and will void the warranty.

Before Installing

  • Inspect the tub carefully! Damage during shipping should be reported to Watertech immediately at 1-800-289-8827. Do Not install a damaged tub - doing so will void your warranty. Follow shipping and receiving procedures which can be found at the bottom of the Products page.

  • Factory defects or damage MUST be reported to Watertech before the tub is installed. Damage after installation is not warranteed.

  • NEVER lift your unit by the plumbing. Doing so could damage the pipe system and create leakage.

  • Pre-test your tub BEFORE placing it in your bathroom. Your Watertech Whirlpool Bath goes through rigorous testing at the factory but shipping and handling could damage the unit or work the pipe system loose. Therefore, after receiving your tub and before moving the unit into your bathroom to install, place the tub in an area where water spillage can occur (driveway or yard). Fill the tub with water to about 2-3 inches above the jets. Plug the motor into a GFCI outlet. While the motor is running, check all pipes and fittings for moisture (the best way to do this is by taking a piece of Kleenex tissue and rub it over all pipes and fittings. Any moisture means there is leakage at that fitting).

  • REMEMBER all local and state building codes MUST be met when installing your unit. ALL electrical connections MUST be made by a LICENSED ELECTRICIAN!

  • Install shower bases and baths following all applicable plumbing and building code.

  • Coordinate and review ALL dimensions pertaining to installation with plumber, contractor, tile installers, carpenters, etc. before construction begins to insure everyone is "one the same page", knows their responsibilities and agree on their scope of the project and that everything fits.

  • Watertech Whirlpool bath is available M-F 8-5 and Sat. 8:30-noon EST to answer any questions you, a plumber, contractor, etc. may have 1-800-289-8827.

  • Tub and Skirt Installation instructions (with skirt)
  • Watertech provides Installation templates for the following tubs. Click on the tub for a printable template. (.pdf file format)
  • Types of Whirlpool installations:

    • 3 Wall Alcove - This type of installation requires a rectangular bath. The tub is installed against 3 walls. A removeable skirt is also installed to cover and protect the tub's pump, and whirlpool systems. There are 2 optional styles of skirts available wood or acrylic. If the bath is going to function as a shower, choose a tub that has vertical sides near the drain end. Avoid tubs that are oval or have raised seating for safety.

    • Drop In / Deck Mount - This type of installation can be any shape you choose. A tub deck is created from various materials including tile, marble and sealed wood with a cutout in the center to allow the tub to be set inside for final installation.

    • Undermount - This type of installation requires a bath with a flat rim and can be any shape. The bath edge is mounted under the deck material making the rim of the bath invisible. When selecting this type of installation be sure to allow for the electronic controls to be installed in a location that won't interfere with the under mounting.

Operating Instructions

  • All Watertech whirlpool baths are equipped with High Pressure Adjustable Jets. Rotating the jet face counter-clockwise increases pressure, rotating the jet face clockwise decreases jet pressure.

  • Typically the bath's water level is above the highest jet before the whirlpool is turned on. To turn the bath on simply push the round Air Button that is installed on the bath. To turn the bath off simply push the Air Button again.

  • The Air Button operates by pushing air thru a tube to the pump which activates the pump. If the pump does not start either the GFCI is tripped and there is no electrical power or the tube from the motor to the Air Button is disconnected either at the motor or Air Button.

  • If a Low Water Sensor or a Variable Flow Control System is ordered, operating instructions are included with the whirlpool bath literature found in each tub.

  • Although all Watertech Whirlpool Baths are 100% self draining, you should periodically clean and disinfect the inner walls of the pipe system with dishwasher detergent (granular, one cup), household bleach (one cup) or white vinegar (one cup). Just fill your tub with water over the jets and pour one of the aforementioned products in the tub. Turn the system on and allow it to run for five minutes. Turn the system off and let the solution soak for at least 20 minutes. Drain the bath completely, refill with cold water, turn the system on and allow the water to rinse the system, then drain.

By doing this periodically, your whirlpool system will remain free of any soap or oil buildups. And remember, with a Watertech whirlpool bath you CAN use bath oils, bubble baths and other bathing accessories because our tubs are 100% self draining and hold no water in the system after you shut the system off and drain.

If you have problems installing your unit, call Watertech at 1-800-289-8827 and we will be more than happy to guide you through the process!
